News and Important Events

MATH OLYMPICS:
In January, the qualifier assessment for this year's Math Olympics will be given in class. The top 3 students for computation and the top 3 for reasoning in the GRADE LEVEL will move on to represent NCCS at this year's competition which will take place on our own campus in March.

MULTIPLICATION FACTS:  Beginning in January, third grade will focus on memorizing basic multiplication facts through 12 x 12.  PLEASE encourage your child to work on these at home as well.

Use these helpful hints to increase accuracy and speed.

"I don't know the answer to the multiplication fact."   WRITE WRITE WRITE.  Using muscle memory is the BEST way to embed the information into LONG TERM MEMORY.  Remember, we want to know theses facts FOREVER, not just to pass a speed drill.  Grab something to write with and on.  Markers, chalk, crayons, pencil, etc.   Then write the factors and the product (answer).  Example:  6 x 7 = 42, 6 x 7 = 42, 6 x 7 = 42, 6 x 7 = 42.  Write it as many times as you need to in order to memorize it.

"I know the answer to the multiplication fact, but I'd like to get faster."  Use flashcards, a computer program, or have someone quiz you!   Make it fun!  How about a competition against Mom, Dad, or your brother?  Who can be faster?
